Entering Chu Garden
Find Your Light Festival | Ateneo Blue Repertory, 2021
“Entering Chu Garden” is a vignette that follows the story of a young couple: Andre - a young Filipino man, and Mia - a Filipino-Chinese (Fil-Chi) girl. When Mia invites Andre to a family event, the two must navigate the racism and biases held within the Fil-Chu community in the Philippines, and whether their relationship is worth fighting for in the midst of these external forces. The play poses questions about the nuances and complexities of how we respond to cultures that are different from ours, and asks us to consider our previously held beliefs and expectations. It asks us how willing we are to comprise, learn, and unlearn things when we’re held accountable for our actions.
